Macondo Chamber Players

Macondo Chamber Players (MCP) stands at the forefront of an exciting new generation in classical music. Founded in 2012 by violinist Jose Romero and pianist Carlos Vargas, MCP brings together established and emerging artists from Latin America and the world to perform chamber music, teach young people, and encourage international understanding.

MCP invites guest artists who come together in different combinations for each concert, providing audiences with exceptional performances of a wide variety of repertoire.

MCP’s exciting programs feature masterpieces of the standard repertoire, along with lesser-known Latin-American folk, classical, and popular music.

While committed to the highest standards of music making, MCP is also passionately committed to education. MCP’s educational programs follow the belief that artists today have an undeniable moral commitment to teach, share, and collaborate with young people, especially those coming from the poorest strata of society.

Macondo Chamber Players, one of the only international chamber music societies focused in Latin America, offers a unique cultural exchange between local audiences, and artists from all over the world. By attending a MCP performance, or experiencing our educational programs, you will undoubtedly witness the humbling efforts of our artists, and hopefully gain a new appreciation for different cultures, music, and life.

During the 2013/2014 season MCP toured Colombia appearing in Sala Beethoven in Cali, Teatro Santo Domingo and Auditorio Fabio Lozano in Bogotá, Sala Suramericana in Medellín, Teatro Municipal in Buga, and Teatro Guillermo Valencia in Popayán as part of the Festival de Música Religiosa. MCP also made its Ecuador debut concerts in La Casa de la Música in Quito and Teatro Municipal in Esmeraldas. In addition, the group gave the Colombian and Ecuadorian premiere of Osvaldo Golijov's Tenebrae.

During the 2014/2015 season, guests artists including Andrey Baranov, Andrej Power, Iria Porras and Jenny Lewisohn will join MCP in concerts and social projects throughout Colombia and Ecuador. MCP will perform in the Santo Domingo as an invitation from the First Lady of the Dominican Republic, and will also appear in the first Esmeraldas International Music Festival, a music festival created by our cellist Francisco Vila in Esmeraldas, Ecuador, that aims to bring music education to talented students in Latin-America who would otherwise not have this opportunity.
